What's it Like Owning an Inn?
An inn does not need to mean that you have a 24/7/365 job or that you need to stay up all night to check in guests. The secret is in managing time and in stream-lining tasks, in having enough linen and storage space, and the right inn equipment. Married, singled or partnered, you should consider hiring people to share the daily and weekly duties so you can have time to yourself and concentrate on the tasks that bring you the most pleasure. That might be mingling with guests, gardening, ATV riding, fishing, hiking etc. You do need to interact well with all kinds of people, be 100% reliable, and be an organized, focused individual! And one more thing, "the public" is not staying in your home. They are renting a room at your inn -- that is why you are charging them.Katie is a native of Utah and she moved to Marysvale with her husband Randy in 1994 from Layton, Utah. She had spent 10 years in the corporate world working for Hoffman LaRoche Pharmaceuticals. Randy also is a Utah native and had been in the Property & Casualty Insurance business for 20 years before moving to Marysvale where his parents and grandparents were born and raised.
Katie says she found her niche when she became an innkeeper. "It is truly the most satisfying thing I have ever done. Don’t get me wrong, it is the "hardest" job I have ever loved and for every negative aspect there are ten positive ones!" Randy has always had the philosophy that "It is the only job I have ever had that there is no distinction between work and play! Show me someone that can walk out their back door, hop on their ATV, be to some of the best fishing and hunting in the State of Utah and be home before the coffee is cold!"
Why are We Selling?
After doing this for (14) years we have other business ventures that are beckoning and there is some world travel we would like to pursue before we get too old to do either. We too were disgruntled with our past careers and we can honestly say this will be the most satisfying career you will ever have.
